See The Room That Ate Ms. Pac-Man and Three Other One-of-a-Kind Video Game Experiences Right Here

Wed, 07/31/2013 - 08:42 -- rprice

Proof that video games are art isn't just on the screen. Sometimes it can be right in front of you, in the form of an arcade classic that swallows a whole room or tricked-out gloves that let you throw a Street Fighter fireball. The video game art that viewers saw at the recent Babycastles Summit—along with a controversial hacked NES game that tackled racism and a Guitar Hero sequel that never happened— wasn't just manifested in button presses. It merged the physical and virtual worlds of play in a series of exhibits that sprang from the mind Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi.

Rockwell Group : Lab

Tue, 02/19/2013 - 10:37 -- rprice

As an interactive design team within a larger architecture firm, the LAB seeks to blur the line between the physical and virtual in all of Rockwell Group’s projects. The LAB’s process relies heavily on iterative prototypes that we build ourselves. Through making and experimenting with interactive experiences, and embedding that software and hardware into things and places, the LAB creates narratives and new design opportunities that provide deeper and more valuable experiences for visitors and inhabitants.

3D Printer Street Cart Kiosk from Unfold « adafruit industries blog

Thu, 10/18/2012 - 14:07 -- rprice

A great real-world version of Bruce Sterling’s “Kiosk” science fiction story from designer Unfold.

Kiosk is a project that explores a near future scenario in which digital fabricators are so ubiquitous, that we see them appear on street corners, just like fast food today is sold in NY style mobile food stalls. A place where you can quickly get a custom made fix for your broken shoe, materialize an illegal download of Starck’s Juicy Salif orange squeezer that you modified for better performance or quickly print out a present for your sisters birthday.

NYC World Maker Faire 2012

Sun, 09/30/2012 - 07:20 -- rprice

Thanks to my awesome job in Schenectady, I was able to manage traveling to NY the week before Maker Faire. Thanks to a great group of friends and connections, I was able to wrangle a free place to stay in Brooklyn (Williamsburg). There was a truly excellent food market there on Saturday morning, so I stopped in to see people serving cold concentrated coffee, raw kale chips, brown butter cookies, and artisan hash browns, of all things. There were lots more booths, but those were the ones where I spent my money.

BBC News - Coldplay Xylobands light up Devon company's profits

Mon, 09/10/2012 - 09:46 -- rprice

Mr Regler's wristbands have now been an integral part of more than 60 Coldplay shows, along with balloons, confetti, lasers and of course the music.

It is a huge leap forward for the firm which still employs only four people but is looking to expand.

The firm's success goes back to the summer of 2005.

It had been making electronic technology for children's toys, but had to file for bankruptcy after another firm failed to pay for a year's work.

Instrument Maker - DIY

Wed, 09/05/2012 - 05:57 -- rprice

The unique skill and taste of an Instrument Maker is what sets the stage for great music. Any object that makes sound can be an instrument, but true music starts with expert design and craftsmanship. Before Miles Davis could play his trumpet, there was a Maker who built his sonic tool.
