ichard Horne (RichRap) is an Electronics Engineer, Product Designer, Salesman, and Problem Solver working in a wide range of industries and applications, across many platforms and technologies for the last 20 years. My interest and passion for 3D printing started in 2009 after visiting the RepRap project website and reading a series of blog posts by another highly dedicated developer, Nophead. RichRap started blogging, designing and developing with 3D printing shortly after.

Actively Building a Robot while learning math, science and engineering. Being on the front lines of technology education, and using that technology to learn the math, science and engineering which is so hard to pick up in a passive chalk talk. Being involved on a competitive robotics team. Whether it's VEX, USFIRST, MATE or LEGO, robotics competitions provide an academic benchmark with a sports like competition. Kids are really motivated to excel because they are involved in something that is real to them.

▶ Wearable neuroheadsets: on mind-controlling our environment - YouTube

Thu, 01/23/2014 - 08:14 -- rprice

Mind-controlled computing is a new field. So new, that in 2009, Emotiv Systems open-sourced their brainwave-reading headset to developers and researchers to help drive innovation. Musician Richard Warp responded to the challenge. Warp is a composer, married to a neuroscientist, who believes in creating music with your mind. Using a neuroheadset (his is an Emotiv EPOC, but there are plenty of brain-computer interfaces (BCI) on the market these days for under $100), he built a generative music system that responds to the brain signal.

The pi 3D Scanner

Thu, 11/14/2013 - 21:06 -- rprice

Each pole has 3 Raspberry Pies with the Pi Camera (5m pixel). The raspberries are connected to the network. Each network cable I custom made, using 4 wires for the actual networking (100mb) and 2 wires to supply 5 volt for the raspberry from one central powerfull powersupply (5v 60A). setup_illustration Each Raspberry connects to the central NAS (Qnap TS109) and load the listening software. This software listen on the network for a specific network broadcast. When this broadcast is received, each raspberry will take a photo.

FlipBooKit is from kinetic artists, Mark Rosen and Wendy Marvel. They create moving art that tells stories and tickles our sense of nostalgia. In late 2011, their series of motorized flipbooks based on the motion studies of Edweard Muybridge began touring with galleries, art shows and at special events internationally.

Niklas Roy: We be Cyborgs!

Mon, 11/11/2013 - 13:30 -- rprice

KIKK, Namur, Belgium / October 2013 in collaboration with Kati Hyyppä “A cyborg, short for ‘cybernetic organism’, is a being with both organic and artificial parts." KIKK invited Kati and me to give a workshop in Namur around the theme “Next Utopia”. We were free to make what we wanted, and decided that it would be cool to transform ourselves into cyborgs! The workshop space was also ideal for reaching the next level of human development: A Renaissance style, empty church full of divine iconography. Regarding the cyborg building materials, we decided to leave computers and electronics out.
