Tue, 08/25/2015 - 14:24 -- rprice

Reddit user smashcuts decided to liven up his interactions with his hardware by building a fully functional overhead control panel for his computer. The 100 programmable buttons range from practical to ridiculous, but smashcuts puts the “fun” in even the most useful functions. His “Main Systems” panel triggers his most used programs, while peripheral panels house switches that function for OS shortcuts or for program-specific commands. All of these he has cleverly codified with nerdy pseudonyms.

Actively Building a Robot while learning math, science and engineering. Being on the front lines of technology education, and using that technology to learn the math, science and engineering which is so hard to pick up in a passive chalk talk. Being involved on a competitive robotics team. Whether it's VEX, USFIRST, MATE or LEGO, robotics competitions provide an academic benchmark with a sports like competition. Kids are really motivated to excel because they are involved in something that is real to them.

When Plants Jam with Synths: Leslie Garcia’s Open Project Lets Plants Talk with Sound

Sun, 04/14/2013 - 10:14 -- rprice

Pulsu is a project that empirically analyzes which are the mechanisms that plants use to communicate and also how their own biological processes are a manifestation of communication, seemingly intangible to our senses.

OpenXC

Tue, 02/19/2013 - 10:35 -- rprice

OpenXC is an API to your car - by installing a small hardware module to read and translate metrics from a car's internal network, the data becomes accessible from most Android applications using the OpenXC library. You can start making vehicle-aware applications that have better interfaces based on context, can minimize distraction while driving, are integrated with other connected services, and can offer you more insight into your car's operation. Ford Motor Company and Bug Labs joined up to create a standard way of creating aftermarket software and hardware for vehicles.

Overview | Reverse Geocache Box | Adafruit Learning System

Tue, 12/18/2012 - 17:26 -- rprice

A reverse geocaching box works similar to other geocaching devices. It will guide you to certain coordinates on earth and instead of finding a geocache located at those coordinates, you carry the box with you, and it opens for you at a predetermined destination. This is also a great way to do a scavenger hunt (making someone go to multiple locations before the box opens).
