How Florida Lost Its Status as "Hollywood East" for Shooting Film, TV Projects - Hollywood Reporter

Fri, 03/13/2015 - 13:43 -- rprice

"I hear it every day: Producers want to come here, but they're forced to take projects to other states and, at times, rewrite them to fit those locations because of the dollar-to-dollar values," says Michelle Hillery, president of Film Florida and deputy film commissioner in Palm Beach County. So much so that Edward Stamm, a vice president at ARRI Rentals (which leases cameras and equipment) tried to get Florida politicians to pay attention as he saw ARRI's business in Miami dropping.

Orange Blossom Trail | Bryan Soderlind : Journal

Thu, 02/06/2014 - 11:47 -- rprice

U.S. Route 441 is a north/south highway that runs over 400 mile long from the north border of Georgia down to Miami. For a short section in Central Florida, US 441 becomes Orange Blossom Trail or “The Trail” Though OBT technically runs from Tangerine to Kissimmee, FL most people consider “The Trail” the 7 mile stretch from HWY 50 in the North to Sandlake Road in the South. Lined with pawn shops, strip clubs, sleazy motels, and sketchy bars, The Trail is a hotbed for seedy characters and criminal activity.

Solar farm Florida Sorrento: Lake Mary company moves ahead on what could Florida's largest solar farm in Sorrento - OrlandoSentinel.com

Sun, 01/06/2013 - 17:49 -- rprice

After a few setbacks, a Lake Mary company behind what is expected to become Florida's largest solar farm is ready to start capturing the sun's energy with a sea of photovoltaic panels.

Tens of thousands of the panels will cover an area large enough in Sorrento to hold 300 football fields once the alternative-energy project is completed in a few years. BlueChip Energy recently received approval on a zoning change from Lake County, which was needed to move forward with the massive solar farm 30 miles northwest of Orlando.

New $1B Orlando-to-Miami passenger rail plan unveiled - Orlando Business Journal

Mon, 03/26/2012 - 08:40 -- rprice

a privately owned, operated and maintained 240-mile passenger rail line to link Orlando to Miami using a right of way that runs through the downtown areas of South Florida’s coastal cities

the goal is for the trains to average 100 mph, with speeds generally faster in rural areas than in urban areas.

In contrast to the heavy public funding for high-speed rail, FECI's announcement indicated its All Aboard Florida system would be privately funded but cost less because it would largely utilize existing tracks.
