Face behind Silicon Orange heading west - Orlando Business Journal

Tue, 12/18/2012 - 17:22 -- rprice

The software consultant and co-founder of Orlando Tech Meetup believes he and his company eventually will return to Orlando because of the talent here and the fact that Doccaster is a convention-related product and Orlando is one of the top convention destinations in the world.

“I want to look back when I am 80 years old and hear Orlando mentioned in the same breath with Boston, Austin, Texas, and Boulder, Colo., when referring to technology communities,” Steele said.

Steele, 37, a software consultant and co-founder of Orlando Tech Meetup, thought the name was better suited to the tech community in downtown Orlando than Orlando Technology Corridor, another name being floated around in early June as a brand for the Orlando tech community.

“It gives us an identify and names the location,” said Steele, who is also co-founder of Doccaster (Gotootie Inc.), an Internet-based document hosting and distribution platform for events.

Boston tech IPO watch (August edition) - Boston Business Journal

Wed, 09/05/2012 - 05:35 -- rprice

Acquia, a Burlington-based provider of services for users of open-source Drupal web content management, on Tuesday announced that it's grown its ranks with the acquisition of spam-blocking company Mollom. Like Acquia, Mollom was co-founded by Dries Buytaert (pictured) who continues to be Acquia's CTO. Company CEO Tom Erickson told me earlier this year that Acquia has strong prospects for an IPO when the timing is right. On Wednesday, the new Inc. 500 list showed Acquia as ranking No. 8 among the country's fastest-growing companies, with $21.8 million in revenue last year.

Drupal world domination - step 2 | Acquia

Wed, 08/29/2012 - 10:01 -- rprice

I'm going to spend some time seeing if I can put together a Seed Accelerator for Drupal. Thus - step 2 in my personal plan for Drupal world domination.

What would this look like? I'm not completely sure yet. I suspect it would work a great deal like the TechStars program (see also the FAQ):
