The Talk Shop | Press

Mon, 05/13/2013 - 13:14 -- rprice

The Talk Shop charges nothing and will be open through April 13 at the West 37th Street space, which was brokered through Chashama, an organization that connects arts groups with underutilized real estate in the city. Passersby can see into the salon, and can watch Mr. Redleaf and his team of “shop talkers”—people including comedians, drag queens, authors and a life coach who help keep the conversations going—as they talk to whomever comes in. To make the Talk Shop inviting, Mr. Redleaf set up a beach umbrella and chairs, hung a string of lights and painted the walls lemon yellow.

Live Active Cultures - Visual & Fine Arts - Orlando Weekly

Wed, 04/24/2013 - 12:44 -- rprice

Just the description alone – “an experimental performance by Jessica Earley featuring hyperbole, puppetry, dance, awkwardness, honesty and video projections to tell a story about heartbreak and healing” – was enough to conjure images of the kind of experimental performance art that was all the rage 40-plus years ago, but too often earns eye-rolls from today’s cynical audiences. “Hyperbolic” seems like the last adjective one might apply to the demure Earley, who I previously knew mostly through her visual art and past collaborations with performance artist Brian Feldman.

Community | SITI Company

Wed, 03/13/2013 - 15:33 -- rprice

Unlike film and television, theater is unfinished until the audience completes the equation. When you enter the theater nothing is guaranteed; you do not really know what is going to happen. How you watch and what you are doing while you watch will have an impact on what is happening on the stage. The potential for a powerful communal experience in the act of coming together is a constant incentive to going to the theater. The audience teams up with one another to have an impact upon the stage and also learns from one another how to watch the play.

Perhaps the most conceptual offering in Capital Fringe history, BFF explores friendship through two hour "friend building" excursions. An All-New Zen with the Same Guiding Principles | Palantir.net

front-end performance is more critical then back-end performance. Front-end performance is also a critical priority for Zen. That’s why Zen 5’s markup and CSS footprint is so small. After turning on Sass production-mode compilation, the total CSS is only 14k; this includes the layout, vertical rhythm support, print styles, all the appropriate vender prefixes (like -o and -khtml), CSS3-prettified tab styling and the 3 menu images that are included via Data URIs into the CSS. Zen includes no images and only 2 JavaScripts (which are only loaded conditionally by IE8 and lower,

Improved InnoDB fast index creation - MySQL Performance Blog

Thu, 12/29/2011 - 07:18 -- rprice

By temporarily dropping secondary indexes from the new table before copying the data, and then recreating them later, ALTER TABLE can take advantage of the fast index creation feature even when it has to copy the entire table.

MySQL Engines: MyISAM vs. InnoDB | Tag1 Consulting

Wed, 12/28/2011 - 10:37 -- rprice

In most cases, InnoDB is the correct choice for a Drupal site. It provides increased concurrency, enhanced performance and much more data integrity than MyISAM ever can. However, the pluggable nature of MySQL engines allows the user to "mix and match" table engines inside a single database. This allows us to consider tables whose workloads fit MyISAM more so than InnoDB. The main candidates for MyISAM in a mostly InnoDB-centric database are the search tables.
