As it is every year, we post dozens of articles on this site, and everyone reads the Sentinel blog... I love what they're doing over there, I just wish we had a little of their budget, standing in the community, or the built-in reputation that you get from being a year-round player in this game. If I could pay five seven bloggers, this would be a different world indeed.
Last night was the first day of shows for the 2008 Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, and I must say the Fringe has got a lot of great stuff going on! So many wonderful shows, both from Orlando regulars and some new folks as well - there's even a show that takes place in the women's bathroom! My friend Jake called me a few days ago to tell me he will be teaching a User Interface Design class at Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, MI next Fall. After my congratulations, he asked me to help him pick out a textbook for his students. Here were my suggestions:
Last week, I started the discussion of programming as a form of creative expression with some of the kids at work, and Kevin pointed us to John Littler's Art and Computer Programming article. That led Eric to post a link to Paul Graham's essay on Hackers and Painters, which I gobbled up and loved.
Where does one begin? I often find that when writing these theatre reviews, it's a good idea to gather my thoughts, think about what I want to say and in what order; I don't have time for that, I'm going back to see the last showing in an hour!
Just now I was buying a new domain name because of a misprint in my AXIS interview - it's probably a common mistake, so it was worth the $7.

OK, seriously, who has a flash website that plays music? With late-90's slideshows?
My First Video on Flickr fit the new requirements perfectly: less than 90 seconds, and less than 150MB. That's fantastic, and the streaming in good, embed codes, tagging, fits right into my flickr photo/video stream, awesome.

Actually, I'm not a quitter, so I'll say this: I've decided that instead of being "versus" each other, some of you Old Media types (can I say Traditional Media? thanks) actually care about your audience. Therefore, we are actually on the same side, you and me. That's why today, I changed the name of my blog to "Ryan Price and the Media". The arc of my story is changing, Act II is beginning (but please wait until the pops are two seconds apart).
Since I have a new job, I had to sit down at a fresh installation of Windows today and get my machine developer-ready. I already miss the Dock and Transmit and the Terminal, but I'll deal.
UPDATE: Today (7/14) I sat down to a new MacBook Pro and had to repeat the process... hooray!
One thing I noticed was my reflex-like action to go download 4 5 plugins no web developer should be without. They are, in no particular order:
