New York Magazine's 6-page Guide to Starting a Monetized Blog

Tue, 02/14/2006 - 06:42 -- rprice

The story of starting a blogging business is not a new one: if you listen to as many podcasts and read as many blogs as I do (which is not a large amount), the formula stares you in the face. There have been covers stories in BusinessWeek that caught huge attention for blogs. Whereas a year ago I would not have been able to say so, my dad now knows what blogging is. So when I tell him I am interested in pursuing blogging for money, he didn't shoot down the idea right away.

Jason Calacanis is my Hero

Wed, 01/25/2006 - 20:05 -- rprice

First of all, this guy has started two successful media companies. That deserves respect. Secondly, he has guts, and he speaks his mind, and he is adamant about his causes, and he likes to get into meaningful discussion and debate. A simple Google search will show dozens of stories about Jason, I'm sure, and I bet most of them give him praise.

Listenable Fabric

Sat, 01/14/2006 - 08:35 -- rprice

I read about Sonic Fabric in a feed from WIRED magazine today - WOW!

They take old vinyl from audiocassettes and weave it into fabric, and apparently with a lightly modified walkman, you can drag the playhead across it and get an actual sound! There is this dress than the drummer from PHISH wore and performed with somehow. I would love to get a video of that someday.

Was the iPod Shuffle like New Coke for Apple?

Sun, 11/13/2005 - 13:17 -- rprice

This post is a bit old now, as I wrote it up as a draft, and never finished writing it. Here it is, some weeks later.
I was listening to Marketing Online Podcast from September 30th entitled "What Harry Potter Taught Us About Podcasting and Directories" when I heard this, and I think it is a good bit of rumor. If you download this file and listen from 27:03 to 27:49 in the timeline, you hear Alex Mandossian sharing his opinion about the iPod Shuffle in relation to the new iPod Nano.

Apple releases iPod Video

Wed, 10/12/2005 - 10:13 -- rprice

People have been saying this was coming for years, and now it has arrived. The iPod Video is no longer an iPod with a color display, but a full-blown video player. The new iPod is thinner with a larger screen; 320 x 240 vs. the old 220 x 176 pixel screen. The physical device has actually grown in height and width, but shrunk in thickness.
