Culture 2 Go - Visual & Fine Arts - Orlando Weekly

Thu, 08/09/2012 - 11:11 -- rprice

Urban ReThink's Book Making workshop Wednesday, led by Greg Leibowitz and Adrian Gonzalez, both veterans of the Flying Horse Editions print studio. (Local illustrator Carly Jean Andrews will also be on hand.)

"Take a piece of paper. Fold it eight times, and now you have a book," Leibowitz says.

It seems simplistic, even self-evident, but it's that simple act of transformation that first fascinated Leibowitz, who delved into the processes of print by interning at local letterpress concern Mama's Sauce as well as Flying Horse.

Now You Know Fridays: The promising future of un-printing

Thu, 04/26/2012 - 08:24 -- rprice

it turns out that reusing paper is easier on the environment than recycling it, that’s probably why the folks at Tree Hugger are giving the un-printer some ink. “Wide use of this technology could have a huge impact,” they predict. “Reusing paper could reduce emissions by 50 to 80 percent over paper recycling.” Recycling involves trucking it to a plant for sorting, mixing it with water to make a slurry, and then spreading it with huge rollers to make “fresh” paper. All of this requires energy, which produces greenhouse gases.

InkShield | Nicholas C Lewis

Sat, 01/28/2012 - 12:26 -- rprice

This shield allows you to connect a HP C6602 inkjet cartridge to your Arduino turning it into a 96dpi print platform. It only uses 5 pins which can be jumper selected to avoid other shields. It is designed with an Arduino Mega footprint but fully supports both the Arduino and the Arduino Mega. It uses all through-hole components to make assembly easy even for beginners.
